2019 Hornet Invitational Results (Day 1)
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – In a lighter first day of Sacramento State's Hornet Invitational on Friday evening, Academy of Art University's
Mobolade Ajomale stole the show with an staggering time in the 200m to open the final collegiate outdoor season of his career.
Less than one week removed from securing his ninth career individual NCAA Division II national championship and 17th All-American honor at
Indoor Nationals, Ajomale picked up right where he left off in the 200m, delivering a 20.81 for not only first of 69 sprinters in the meet and an Outdoor Nationals provisional, but also the best time any NCAA division has seen thus far in 2019.
Back of Ajomale, the trio of
Daquan Berry (21.98),
Grant Swinton (22.00), and
Arrun Palacio (22.01) finished ninth through 11th out of the field of 69.
The women's 200m saw a trio of Urban Knights among the top 10 in an 83-sprinter field. Fifth overall was
Darria Matthias who turned in a 24.47 and she was followed by
Ombretta Picciolie Minkue Meye (24.54) in seventh and
Mia Avila (24.81) 10th overall.
Completing the first four events of the heptathlon,
Briaunna Caver will take 2,293 points into tomorrow's final day. She won the shotput with a throw of 36-4 (11.07m) to highlight the first afternoon of action.
Academy of Art returns for a busy Saturday back on the track. A total of 12 men's events and 12 women's events (including the conclusion of the heptathlon) are slated to feature Urban Knights once again inside Hornet Stadium.
