2019 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships Results (Day 2)
KINGSVILLE, Texas – Back inside Texas A&M-Kingsville's Javelina Stadium on Friday, Academy of Art track & field had
Mobolade Ajomale set himself up for a 200m title defense with the top time out of the event prelims on the second of three days of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.
After watching the leaders of the first two 200m prelim heats go 21.24 and 21.28, Ajomale promptly paced the day's fastest heat with a season-best 20.76. The event's defending champion dominated out of the eighth lane, besting the next closest sprinter, Rogers State's Alfred Thomas, by 0.06.
Slightly less than 24 hours after she became a
Second Team All-American in the 100m,
Ombretta Picciolie Minkue Meye came across the finish line at 24.85 in the 200m prelims. She took sixth in the opening heat and ended up 18th overall and 0.48 back of the eighth qualifier to tomorrow's championship race.
Ending the day's action, the men's 4x400m relay prelims saw
Christian Carter,
Grant Swinton,
Kaze Poitier, and
Roshard Williams combine for a 12th-place finish at 3:14.16. The mark was just over two and a half seconds out of qualification to the final.
With all but Saturday's championship events to be determined, Academy of Art looks ahead to
Camille Jouanno in the triple jump at 4:45 p.m. CT (2:45 p.m. PT), the men's 4x100m at 5:20 p.m. CT (3:20 p.m. PT),
Victor Moreau in the 1500m at 5:45 p.m. CT (3:45 p.m. PT).
