Men's Golf Climbs Two Spots After Strong Final Round

BELLINGHAM, Wash. –
Academy of Art jumped two spots in the standings for a 10th place finish after the final round of the Western Washington Invitational, Tuesday afternoon at the Bellingham Golf & Country Club. The Urban Knights placed higher than any other PacWest team and put together their best score by seven strokes, with a 2-over-par 290 on the final day.

Junior Matthew Watkins maintained his top spot for ART U with another solid round for an 18th place finish. Watkins shot an even 72 in round three for a cumulative score of 216 on a tournament leading 15 birdies, including seven in the final round alone. Watkins also held the second lowest score in the entire field on par-5 holes, a superb 6-under-par. 

Tied for 38th and the next highest finisher for ART U was junior Julius Kreutzer with a cumulative score of 6-over-par 222. Kreutzer shot four birdies on day two and tied senior Otto Homruen for the best final round score of any Urban Knight with a 1-under-par 71.  Homruen closed his tournament in a tie for 56th on a 10-over-par 226 and junior Zhane Chan was the final scoring for ART U in a tie for 70th. Chan fired a 4-over-par 76 on day two for a total score of 230. 

After having two tournaments in less than a week the Urban Knights will have two weeks without competition before traveling to Portland, Ore. for the Concordia Invitational, starting Oct. 7.
