2021 NCAA DI West/South Regional (Final Round)
DUPONT, Wash. – Climbing six spots in the final day to finish in a tie for sixth place was Academy of Art men's golf junior
Julius Kreutzer, as he ended the NCAA DII West/South Central Regional with his second 1-under-par 71 during the closing round. Meanwhile, ART U would finish in 14th place as a unit at a combined 40-over-par 904.
"Julius played very solid, but unfortunately he came up just a little short," said ART U Head Coach
Andy Moren. "He and the team worked extremely hard for this opportunity and it is a tough way to finish our season. I am still so proud of these guys, and I'm thankful that I had the opportunity to get to know them and coach them."
For the tournament, Kreutzer was one of three players to combine for an even-par 216, five shots off the score turned in by individual winner Thomas Jenkins of Sonoma State (5-under-par 211). Starting his day off with a bogey, Kreutzer would follow with his first birdie of the day on hole two, and after a pair of pars he would repeat the process with a birdie on five before bogeying the sixth. Kreutzer would find one final birdie on the front nine, taking advantage of a par-5 on hole eight to make the turn at 1-under-par. It was smooth sailing through most of the back nine, and while he would bogey the 12th hole, Kretuzer would make up for it with his fourth and final birdie of the day on the 15th. That would mark nine total birdies for Kreutzer at the Regional, most on the Knights.Â
Following up Kreutzer was the senior duo ofÂ
Gabriel De Leon Manotoc and
Otto Homruen, as both ended in a tie for 51st place at 12-over-par 228. De Leon Manotoc would end his final round with three birdies, while Homruen was able to save 13 pars. Rounding out the scoring for the Urban Knights was junior
Matthew Watkins, ending in a tie for 69th place at 16-over-par 232.Â
Taking the team title at the West/South Central Regional was Texas A&M - Commerce, combining for a 10-over-par 874 as a team to win by a total of five strokes. Fellow PacWest member Holy Names held firm in its placement after the final round, placing 13th as a team and just one stroke ahead of ART U at 39-over-par 903.Â
