PacWest Weekly Awards (Jan. 17)
IRVINE, Calif. – Fresh off a tremendous 42-point performance that included 10 3-pointers made and broke the school scoring record, Academy of Art women's basketball junior guard
Chanel Stuart was selected as the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week. The award is for games played from Jan. 10-16.

The Communications & Media Technologies major began the week by scoring a game-high 16 points (4-of-7 from three-point range) versus UH Hilo on
Jan. 13. Stuart's breakout game then came on
Jan. 15 when she erupted for 19 points on five 3-pointers in the first quarter against Hawaii Pacific before going on to become the program's new record-holder with 42 points and 10 triples which ranked seventh and tied for first in PacWest history respectively.
"Chanel is the first player I ever recruited to Academy of Art," said Head Coach
Krystle Evans. "Coming out of high school, we were her only offer. This young lady has put in countless hours in the gym with her father, to see her break Tayler Bennett and Josselyn Morris' record for most 3-pointers in a single game and score 42 points against a team that has historically dominated us, has given me chills. Chanel is an example for young student-athletes in terms of trusting the process and continuing to work hard every day and every rep. I'm so proud of her and happy for her."
The week saw Stuart average 29.0 points, 7.0 triples, and 2.5 rebounds per game. On the year, Stuart has vaulted to 12th in the PacWest in scoring (12.2 points per game), sixth in 3-pointers made per game (2.5) as well as three-point percentage (.280), and currently sits second in the conference in steals per game (2.3).
This is the second PacWest weekly honor for Stuart this season and eighth in her career as well as the fifth for Academy of Art women's basketball in 2021-22 with Stuart previous selection on
Jan. 10, freshman forward/center
Alisha Wilson receiving two as well (
Nov. 27,
Dec. 13), and graduate student guard
Joy Krupa's Nov. 22 award.
