2022 Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout (Final Results)
ALAMEDA, Calif. – Starting the day toward the back of the field in the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout from Chuck Corica Golf Complex, Academy of Art men's golf put together a solid final round led by the second even-par of the tournament from junior
Matthew Watkins, as he would finish in a tie for 37th place at a final score of 2-over-par 218. Meanwhile, ART U as a squad would close the action in 16th place with a combined 39-over-par 903.
Another four birdies on the day would help push Watkins to his finish, as his total of 14 over three rounds was tied for the fourth-most in the tournament field. Matching Watkins' four birdies on the day was freshman
Giulio Zanichelli, with three coming on the front nine where he was 3-under-par. However, he would close out his final round with a 3-over-par ultimately leading to a 50th place finish with a final score of 7-over-par 223. Starting the final round in a tie was the freshman duo of
Anson Pan and
Ralph Kho, and after each carding identical scores of 5-over-par 77, both ended in a tie for 86th place at 18-over-par 234.
Though his score did not count towards ART U's team score, freshman
Jack DeBenedetti posted the team's second-best final round score with a 2-over-par 74, which included a nice stretch on the front nine at even-par. He would close the tournament tied for the 15th-best par-5 cumulative score, going a combined 5-under-par on such holes.Â
Winning the team portion of the tournament was Cal State Monterey Bay with a combined score of 18-under-par 846, topping second place Cal State San Bernardnio by six strokes (12-under-par 852). The Otters would be atop the leaderboard in the individual portion as well, boasting the individual champion in Liam Adler, who ended the tournament tied with a 9-under-par 207 along with Ananjan Kaushik of Cal State East Bay. While the top Pacific West Conference finishing team was Holy Names in seventh place at 2-under-par 862, it was Dominican who would have the top individual finisher in eighth-place Christian Schrodt at 5-under-par 211.Â
Next up for Academy of Art is the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational that will begin on Monday, Mar. 28 and will be held at Turlock Country Club.Â
