GOODYEAR, Ariz. – It was junior
Matthew Watkins leading the way for Academy of Art men's golf during the third round of the RJGA Palm Valley Classic, as his 1-over-par 73 was tops on ART U in round three while the Urban Knights would total a 15-over-par 303 as a unit. Overall, ART U closed the action in 16th place in the team portion with a combined score of 44-over-par 908.
A pair of birdies on the back nine helped Watkins to post a 73 in his final round, his lowest round score of the tournament, but he would finish in a tie for 54th place at 7-over-par 223. It was freshman
Giulio Zanichelli who ended the tournament as the top ART U finisher, tying for 45th place with a combined score of 5-over-par 221, turning in a 4-over-par 76 in the third round. Also scoring for ART U was freshman
Anson Pan in 85th place, finishing the tournament at 16-over-par 232.
Earning the individual title was Jake Doggett of Midwestern State with a combined score of 10-under-par 206, winning by just one stroke over Joey Geary of Western New Mexico. Midwestern State would also capture the team championship, though they would run away from the field and win by 12 strokes with a final score of 20-under-par 844. Holy Names was the top finishing team from the Pacific West Conference, coming in 10th place at 7-over-par 871 while also boasting the PacWest's top individual in Luke Dugger at 1-under-par 215 for a tie for 16th.
