2022 Birdie Fest (Round 2)
SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – All five Urban Knights either matched or improved their scores Tuesday as Academy of Art women's golf wrapped up the second and final round of Dominican's Birdie Fest in third by one stroke out at Peacock Gap Golf Club.
Bettering her round one card by three strokes, juniorÂ
Napat "Plern" Rattanaprakarn shot a 2-over-par 73 to take sole possession of fifth place (7-over-par 149) when the field of 15 golfers had completed all 36 holes. Junior
Tessa Geenen matched her teammate on day two with a 2-over-par 73, a four-stroke improvement from
Monday, and tied with freshman
Nicole Yang for sixth (8-over-par 150). The team leader through the opening round, Yang matched her 4-over-par 75 from the first day on Tuesday.
Freshman
Maddie Elias offered not just the most significant improvement on the team but in the entire tournament, cutting 10 strokes off her first round with a 1-over-par 72 (tied for the second-best day two score) to finish tied for ninth (12-over-par 154). JuniorÂ
Valeria Ruiz equaled her first round result with another 8-over-par 79, taking 12th individually (16-over-par 158).
The tournament's team victory went to Holy Names despite their second round being two strokes more than their first at 14-over-par 298 for a combined 26-over-par 594. Dominican, who was tied with ART U after the first round, finished just one stroke better on day two for a 31-over-par 599 in front of the Urban Knights' 32-over-par 600.
Academy of Art will finish the month of September with the Westminster Wasatch Invitational spanning Sept. 25-27 at the Glenmoor Golf Course in South Jordan, Utah.
