PacWest Honors Wilson’s Defense For Third Time In 2022-23

PacWest Weekly Awards (Jan. 30)

IRVINE, Calif. – Maintaining her double-double streak while setting a new career-high in steals to help Academy of Art women's basketball end its homestand with a win, sophomore forward/center Alisha Wilson collected her third PacWest Defender of the Week selection of the season on Monday. Wilson averaged 10.5 defensive rebounds, 3.5 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game in the Urban Knights' 1-1 week finishing the month of January. The award is for games played from Jan. 22-29.

In what was an overtime battle with Hawaii Pacific on Jan. 24, Wilson started the week by splitting her career-high 22 rebounds on both ends of the court with 11 coming defensively. She added one blocked shot in the contest and her rebounding was key in keeping the Sharks to just nine points in the third quarter while ART U executed its comeback. Five days later in a win over UH Hilo on Jan. 29, the Communications & Media Technologies major absorbed 10 defensive rebounds, blocked another shot, and topped her previous career-high by one with seven steals (her 11th game with multiple thefts), the last of which came with 23 seconds left when the Vulcans were attempting to take the lead. Double-doubles in both games and now 11 straight tied Wilson with program record-holder Jasmin Guinn for the most in an Urban Knight career (27).

On the year, Wilson's 13 double-doubles (three from the Academy of Art single-season record) pace the PacWest (fifth in NCAA Division II) while her conference-leading 13.9 rebounds per game are third in NCAA Division II. She is also fourth in the PacWest in both blocks (1.2) and steals per game (2.4).

This is the fourth PacWest weekly honor for Wilson this season after she was named Defender of the Week on Jan. 4 as well as Jan. 23 and Player of the Week on Jan. 16. It is her sixth career weekly award.
