Men's Golf Takes Second Overall, Pan Has Career Finish

2023 Westmont Invitational Results (Day 2)

GOLETA, Calif. -- In the final day of the Westmont Invitational at the Sandpiper Golf Course, Academy of Art men's golf shot a 308 as a team to finish second out of a four team field. The Urban Knights ended the two rounds of golf with an overall score of a 22-over-par 598.

"This was a great tournament for us, and a great example of the progress we have made in just one month this season," said Head Coach Joe Dolby. "Round one showed what can happen when everyone is committed to the strategy for every shot, every hole, and the result was our lowest round of the season by 11 shots and a four-shot lead. Good things happen when we have the right focus and attitude."

Junior Anson Pan finished his tournament with a two-over-par 146 (tied for fourth) and recorded the second-best single-round score of the tournament with his first-round 69. These results would mark Pan's career best overall finish, single-round, and two-round score at Academy of Art.

Not far behind Pan was junior Giulio Zanichelli, ending the tournament at seventh place overall with his four-over-par 148. Also within the top 10 was sophomore Jerah Venkaiya, with a five-over-par 149. This result is also Venkaiya's career best two-round score along with his best single-round score of 74 on day two. Senior Allan Osornio rounded out the scoring for the Urban Knights, as he shot a 11-over-par 155.

"I'm proud of the progress that Anson and Jerah have made this season, resulting this week in career best finishes," Dolby said. "Both have bought into the strategies for improvement that we are committing to as a team, and they are playing with a lot more confidence. Anson's 69 was an example of how talented a player he is and how easy golf can be for him when he plays in control. Jerah is showing great consistency and is a valuable contributor in every round."

Peyton Hendricks of Westmont is the individual champion of the tournament with their four-under-par 140, and Westmont would also take the tournament with their team total 15-over-par 591 with ART U close behind taking second. Academy of Art would best schools such as Occidental and Chaminade by double-digit strokes.

ART U's next event will take place over two days at the Otter Invitational in Seaside, Calif at Bayonet & Black Horse Golf Course on Monday, Oct. 16 and Tuesday, Oct. 17.
