Zanichelli Second Overall, ART U Halfway Along PCH Invite

PCH Invitational (Round 1)

CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA, Calif. –
Monday saw Academy of Art men's golf complete the first round of the spring season at the PCH Invitational hosted at Quail Lodge & Golf Club, with the Urban Knights currently sitting in sixth place with a combined score of 18-over-par 302.

Leading the way for ART U over the course of the first round was junior Giulio Zanichelli (second place overall) with an impressive 2-under-par 69, his best round in his young 2023-2024 campaign. Elevating himself high in the leaderboard early, Zanichelli saw four birdies drop in his first nine holes played.

Next up on ART U is senior Allan Osornio who is tied for 13th place at 3-over-par 74, and is the only player through the first round to score an eagle, which came for Osornio on Hole 14 as he shot a three on a par five. Sophomore Jerah Venkaiya came next as he shot a 8-over-par 79 and ended Day 1 tied for 30th. Junior Anson Pan finished close by with a 9-over-par 80 at T33th, while senior Jack DeBenedetti was right behind with an 11-over-par at T39th.

Through one round, Connor Wierman leads the scoreboard and Occidental College with his current 3-under-par 68, just one stroke ahead of Zanichelli. Wierman helped boost the Tigers into first place as a squad as well, being the top member of three on the team who placed themselves in the top 10 through the first day of action.

The PCH Invitational concludes tomorrow with round two.
