PacWest Athletes of the Week (Apr. 2) – Women | Men
IRVINE, Calif. – After each excelled in different horizontal jumps among NCAA Division I talent at Texas Relays, Academy of Art track & field's
Marie-Jeanne Ourega and
Yacouba Gnacko were both named PacWest Field Athletes of the Week on Tuesday. The awards are for meets from March 25-31.
Recording her first mark of the outdoor season in the long jump, Ourega immediately put herself among the nation's top 10 on
Mar. 29. The Communications & Media Technologies major bettered the NCAA Division II Outdoor Nationals provisional standard by 0.13m with her 19-7 (5.97m) mark and finished in front of four other NCAA DI competitors in the event.
Gnacko furthered his hold on top spot in the country in the
Mar. 30 triple jump with another Outdoor Nationals provisional qualification on a season-best 51-7 (15.72m) which bettering the standard by 1.03m. Out of a 14-jumper field that featured professional athletes as well as NCAA DI participants, the Industrial Design major took sixth overall and currently remains nearly three full inches ahead of the next closest NCAA DII competitor.
This is the year's first PacWest weekly honor for Ourega as well as the seventh of her career while it is Gnacko's second of the season after his
Mar. 19 selection and the third in his career.
