SAN FRANCISCO – Academy of Art women's soccer continues to gear up for their 2024 campaign with the newest signee to the Urban Knights in midfielder Ruby Martinez (Oxnard, Calif./Channel Islands).
"I chose ART U because the team was very welcoming on my first visit and it seems like a great school," Martinez said. "I'm most excited to explore the city."
Playing two years on the varsity soccer team at Channel Islands High School, Martinez led the squad as team captain in her senior campaign with the unit, finishing their season with a 9-8 overall record while going 6-6 in league play. In her junior season, Martinez was a part of a Channel Islands team that went 12-8 overall and 10-2 in league. By the end of her senior year, Martinez was named as an All-Citrus Coast League Honorable Mention after she helped conduct a 2-1 playoff victory over Geffen Academy in the first round of the 2024 CIF Southern Section Girls' Soccer Championships.
With a future goal of working in interior design, Martinez will join the Academy of Art women's soccer team as a student in the School of Interior Architecture & Design. Martinez joins Tegan Smith,
Aubrey Schraml, and
Zeena Grewal as part of ART U's incoming recruiting class.
