Men's Golf

Knights Paced By Zanichelli's Top 10 Rank At Tim Tierney

Pioneer Shootout (Day 1)

ALAMEDA, Calif. –
Competing in a 17-team field, Academy of Art men's golf concluded the first day and opening two rounds of action nearing the middle of the pack, finishing with a 9-over-par 585 at Corica Park Golf Course.

Concluding the two-round battle atop the Urban Knights' roster, No. 57 senior Giulio Zanichelli's 5-under-par 139 was good for sixth place overall amongst the 104-competitor field. As his first round resulted in a 4-under-par 68, it turned out to be the third-best individual round of the starting playthrough. Next up on ART U was junior Zach DuBourdieu, who shot a consistent 3-over-par 147 to slot into the second spot on the squad, while senior Anson Pan and freshman Mario Stump's 7-over-par 151 apiece rounded out the team scoring. Lastly was freshman Ekam Singh, who finished the day with an 11-over-par 153.

Two strokes ahead of the next best, Sonoma State leads the way in team scoring with a 17-under-par 559 overall, looking to fend off Cal State San Marcos, who are right there with them with a 15-under-par 561. As Zanichelli is in arm's reach of four golfers before him, Greg Mouser of CSUSM will look to take the individual title tomorrow as he holds a four-stroke lead over second place, as he shot an 11-under-par 133 in the first two rounds.

ART U will close out the tournament tomorrow morning, teeing off at 7:45 a.m.
