AJANI, "HE WHO WINS THE STRUGGLE" (60m, 200m)
A six-time All-American following a breakout 2024 campaign,
Ajani Ince seeks his first individual indoor honors this week after qualifying for both the 60m and 200m dashes. The native of Barbados' times hovered around the 6.74 - 6.81 range in the 60m for the first month before a huge personal record of 6.67 was turned in at the Harvard Invitational on
Jan. 31. That mark, second in program history only to newly christened USTFCCCA Hall of Famer Mobolade Ajomale (6.57), ended up tying him with Catawba's Winfred Porter and Walsh's Micah Gremling for eighth in the country by the regular season's end.
In addition to the 60m, Ince has an opportunity for gold in the 200m where he concluded among the nation's top 10. The Architecture major steadily dropped his times in the event over the course of the season eventually settling on a new indoor best of 21.00 which came at the Last Chance Indoor National Qualifier on
Mar. 2. He is once again second only to Ajomale's program record 20.67 after wrapping up the regular season tied with Washburn's Ezekiel Seamster for ninth in NCAA DII. In addition to his individual events, Ince is slated to run on the Urban Knights' 4x400m relay.
LINA THE RECORD-BREAKER (800m)
Lina Hanich enters the postseason with significant momentum, having run the fourth-fastest 800m time in NCAA DII history just 10 days ago. The five-time All-American, who previously finished 11th in the event at Indoor Nationals each of the last two years, broke the program record for the fifth time in her career when she went 2:04.49 at the Last Chance Indoor National Qualifier on
Mar. 2. She will step into this week's action ranked second in the country behind only CSU Pueblo's Helen Baybrook (2:03.90).
SAY YA-COUBA (TJ)
Over the past three Indoor Nationals,
Yacouba Gnacko has figured prominently among the finishers in the triple jump. This weekend he will return to the runway's spotlight looking to make it four straight top 10 finishes after remaining among the nation's leaders in the event for the entire season. He surpassed 50 feet for the first time in 2025 when he went 50-5.5 (15.38m) at the Nevada Invite/Multis on
Jan. 25 then bettered that mark with a 50-8 (15.44m) on in his final regular season attempt of the regular season on
Mar. 2 at the Last Chance Indoor National Qualifier. 50-8 (15.44m). The eight-time All-American, whose indoor-best 51-8.25 (15.75m) ranks second in program history, wrapped up the campaign fifth in NCAA DII.
MIGHTY MICHAELA (800m)
One section after her teammate
Lina Hanich rebroke the 800m record at the at the Last Chance Indoor National Qualifier on
Mar. 2,
Michaela Andrews was busy delivering the second-fastest time in Academy of Art history. The Fashion Styling major, who is seeking the first All-American honor of her career this week, lowered her mark for the fourth consecutive occasion with a 2:09.96 that made her one of just two Knights to run sub-2:10.00. At the conclusion of the regular season, Andrews found herself 22nd in NCAA DII.
UNCATCHABLE MARLIN (400m)
Competing in his first individual indoor event since joining ART U,
Josh Marlin has posted four consecutive sub-48.00 times in the 400m entering Indoor Nationals. Among those efforts was an indoor-best 47.40 at the Riverfront Invitational & Multis on
Feb. 8 which put the Communications & Media Technologies fifth in program history. Marlin walks to the starting line ranked 21st in the nation this season with a potential fourth All-American honor in mind.
FINAL FOUR (Men's 4x400m)
The last of five consecutive Indoor Nationals provisionally-qualifying marks from the ART U 4x400m relay of
Tre'Sean Bouie, Ince,
Tariq Dacres, and
Kailen Perry put themselves inside the country's top 10. Different combinations of Urban Knights have turned in relay times this season, but it was that quartet who collectively delivered a 3:10.79 at the Last Chance Indoor National Qualifier on
Mar. 2 to lead the way, coming in 0.64 seconds from the program's top five all-time marks.
THE NEXT CHAPTER
With the conclusion of its indoor season, ART U resumes its outdoor campaign in full force with Sacramento State's Hornet Invitational on Mar. 21-22.
