PacWest Conference Weekly Awards (April. 11)
IRVINE, Calif. -- Academy of Art has swept the PacWest weekly golf awards. The honors go to freshman
Nattavadee "Baipor" Khunsri and sophomore
Matthew Watkins who both had incredible performances in their respective tournaments.
Khunsri won the Sonoma State Spring Invitational, splitting the individual title with Alli Kim and Shantel Antonio, after shooting a 74 (+2) in the second round to end with a cumulative score of 148. This is her first tournament win and shows a huge improvement from past events. The Urban Knights ended runner-up as a team.
"We are all very proud of Baipor," said head coach
Mitch Lowe. "She showed signs of starting to play really well last week in Arizona and proved it this week under some very difficult conditions. She got her good putting back which has been giving her trouble the past couple of weeks."
Watkins had a historical performance at the Mustang Intercollegiate. On day one he tied the best single round score in Academy of Art men's golf program history in back to back rounds with a pair of 67s (-5). On day two he shot a solid 72 (E) to end with (-10) cumulatively and tied for the best score across three rounds in ART U history.
"We are all very proud of Matt's performance this week," said head coach
Andy Moren. "We all knew he was capable of playing this well, but I think it was very important that he was proved it to himself."
