PacWest Weekly Awards (Feb. 6)
IRVINE, Calif. – Impressive rebounds and steals totals propelled Academy of Art women's basketball sophomore forward/center
Alisha Wilson to her fourth PacWest Defender of the Week selection of the year on Monday. Wilson averaged 12.0 defensive rebounds and 4.0 steals per game in the Urban Knights' 1-1 week highlighted by a defensive masterpiece by the team as a whole. The award is for games played from Jan. 30 – Feb. 5.
First against No. 18 Azusa Pacific on
Feb. 2, Wilson racked up five steals while also recording her 12th consecutive double-double with 14 rebounds (eight on the defensive end) and 11 points. Matching her freshman season total of 14 double-doubles, Wilson became the program's new career leader with 28 to surpass previous record-holder
Jasmin Guinn. Two days later versus Biola on
Feb. 4, Wilson helped Academy of Art hold the Eagles to just six points in the second quarter then four in the fourth (the fewest by an ART U opponent to date) while grabbing 16 defensive rebounds as part of 22 in total to match her career-high. The Communications & Media Technologies major added three steals, marking her 13th time with multiple thefts in a game.
Thus far in 2022-23, Wilson's 14 double-doubles pace the PacWest (seventh in NCAA Division II) while her conference-leading 14.3 rebounds per game are second in NCAA Division II. She is also second in the PacWest in steals (2.6) and fourth in blocks (1.1) per game.
This is the fifth PacWest weekly honor for Wilson this season after she was named Defender of the Week on
Jan. 4,
Jan. 23, and
Jan. 30 as well as Player of the Week on
Jan. 16. It is her seventh career weekly award.
