Zanichelli Holes PacWest Golfer Of The Year, First Team

2023-24 All-PacWest Teams

LONG BEACH, Calif. – After earning an individual invitation to the 2024 NCAA Division II National Championship on May. 11, Academy of Art men's golfer junior Giulio Zanichelli finished as the conference's top all-around performer on the All-PacWest First Team and was granted the honor of Pacific West Conference Golfer of the Year in Friday's announcement.

Giulio Zanichelli"We are very proud of Giulio for this amazing accomplishment," said Head Coach Joe Dolby. "He worked so hard this year, on the course, in the gym and in the classroom, and it's so validating to see those results pay off. He developed quite a bit from the beginning of the Fall to this point, but he always possessed this ability and potential; the final piece was him believing in himself beyond all doubt. The best part is that we now have a blueprint for what it takes to win such an award that our whole team can use in the upcoming seasons. Hats off to Giulio, this is well-earned!"

Being the only PacWest golfer taking the trip to Winter Garden, Fla. for Nationals, Zanichelli most recently rounded out his NCAA DII West/South Central Regional with a third place finish as he entered the tournament as an individual. Tied for third with two others, Zanichelli beat out a competitor in a playoff hole, where he'd shoot a par and earn the bid.

As the Industrial Design major held a 72.66 round average over the course of the season thus far, Zanichelli also tied for third at the PacWest Championship on Apr. 17, earning All-Tournament Team honors. Throughout the campaign, Zanichelli has six top 10 finishes, has been in the top three on three occasions, and has one individual tournament win at the PCH Invitational on Feb. 13. The junior has also recorded par or better on 17 occasions this season, while his lowest round was a 6-under-par 66 that he shot at two separate tournaments.

This is the first both All-PacWest First Team and PacWest Player of the Year honor for Zanichelli in his career, while his Player of the Year honor is the second time an Urban Knight has done so in program history after Julius Kreutzer did so in 2021.
