Mia Gonzalez To Enhance Defense For Women's Soccer

SAN FRANCISCO – Academy of Art women's soccer has announced another recruit to join the Urban Knights in the upcoming fall season with the addition of Mia Gonzalez (Bakersfield, Calif./Independence High School).

Mia Gonzalez"I chose ART U because of the unique majors and opportunities within them they offer," Gonzalez said. "I'm most excited to join and grow as a player with the women's soccer program, as well as create bonds off the field with new teammates."

An impressive high school career at Independence saw Gonzalez come away with a plethora of accolades after her three-year career on the varsity squad. Being a part of a team with an overall record of 49-13-11 over the past three seasons, Gonzalez is coming off a 20-6-2 campaign with the Falcons that earned her SYVL All-League Defensive Player of the Year honors for the second time in her career while she was also named First Team All-League for the third time. After being named a Division II Valley Champion as a team captain with her team, Gonzalez was additionally named as team captain for the All-Star Game in her third appearance, where she was then awarded Most Valuable Player of the South All-Star Team.

While playing high school soccer, Gonzalez also competed with Real FC and Albion SC Central Cal under Joe Montoya's coaching for eight years.

While in pursuit of her future goal of working as an industrial designer, Gonzalez will enter the Academy of Art School of Industrial Design this fall. Gonzalez joins Ruby Martinez, Tegan Smith, Aubrey Schraml, and Zeena Grewal as part of ART U's incoming recruiting class.
