Senior Quartet Captures All-PacWest Honors

IRVINE, Calif. — For an  Academy of Art University women's basketball team that has matched the program's wins record thus far in 2015-16, four Urban Knights were selected to All-PacWest Teams and one received an individual honor in a Wednesday announcement by the Pacific West Conference office. Senior guard Jasmin Guinn was named PacWest Defender of the Year and All-PacWest First Team each for the second time in her career, senior guard Zoie Sheng earned All-PacWest Second Team, and the senior guard tandem of Regina Camera and Sha'Nice Storey were selected All-PacWest Third Team.

This year, the PacWest coaches or designated representatives from each school selected 24 student-athletes for All-Conference accolades. The squad consisted of a First Team, Second Team, Third Team, and honorable mention featuring six players on each listing. Additionally, individual awards were given to a Player, Freshman, Newcomer, Defender, and Coach of the Year.

12780Ranked fourth in the country in steals per game (3.7) by the regular season's end, Guinn elevated her game to a new level as a senior. The Knights' leading scorer (19.5 points per game, third in PacWest) and rebounder (8.6 rebounds per game, ninth in PacWest), Guinn has posted 13 double-doubles including four in her last five games. A 2016 Coach Wooden Cup Semi-Finalist, the senior guard was twice named PacWest Player of the Week  (Nov. 16Feb. 15) and a three-time PacWest Defender of the Week (Nov. 30Jan. 11Feb. 1).

This season, Guinn set new program single-season records for points scored, steals, and free throws made. After becoming the first player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points, she would achieve a new program single-game scoring record with 35 points in a Nov. 27 win over Cal State Monterey Bay. The Berkeley, Calif. native has logged 3+ steals in 23 of her 30 games played, tying ART U's single-game record with eight thefts on Senior Day against Notre Dame de Namur. Guinn, a 2015 GNAC/PacWest Yellowjacket Challenge All-Tournament Team selection,  also set a series of program career records including points scored and steals while becoming the first Urban Knight to break the 800-rebound barrier.

12782Only getting better and better each season at Academy of Art, Sheng ranked as one of the top point guards in the PacWest Conference in 2015-16. She finished the regular season second in PacWest in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.3, 22nd in DII) and fourth in assists per game (4.9 apg, 34th in DII). Sheng was tied for ninth in the PacWest in scoring (14.8 ppg), sixth in free throw percentage (.809), and posted 20+ points on five occasions.

Like Guinn, Sheng was one of four ART U players to break the 1,000 careerpoint barrier in 2015-16, doing so in addition to setting the program's single-season and furthering the career records for assists. A GNAC/PacWest Yellowjacket Challenge All-Tournament Team selection, the senior guard's season highlights included a season-high 10 assists against Cal State Monterey Bay and nearly the program's first quadruple-double with nine points, nine assists, seven rebounds, and seven steals in a thrilling overtime win at Point Loma.

12781In a year featuring a collection of talented players in the PacWest Conference, Camera was one of the most productive. She was the lone player in the conference to rank in top 10 in points (14.9 ppg, ninth), assists (4.0 apg, eighth), and steals (2.2 spg, fifth) per game. The Stockton, Calif. native also finished 22nd in the PacWest in rebounding (5.7 rpg) and, on nine occasions this year, she amassed 10+ points, 5+ rebounds, and 5+ assists.

Camera was the second player in ART U history to achieve 1,000 career points, a feat she accomplished against Cal State Stanislaus. Currently second in program history in a variety of career categories including points scored, assists, and steals, Camera is also third in career rebounds. Hanging her hat on consistency throughout the year, she scored in double figures in 27 of 30 games and delivered a new career-high 26 points in the Knights' overtime win at PLNU.

13160Averaging a career-high 11.9 points per game (23rd in PacWest), Storey made it four ART U players among the conference's top 25 scorers. She was fifth in the PacWest in 3-pointers made per game (2.3) and eighth in three-point percentage (.337). Currently seven triples away from setting the program's single-season record, Storey this year became the first Urban Knight to make more than 200 career shots from beyond the arc.

Storey joined her teammates in the 1,000 career point club against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Nov. 24 and later errupted for one of the best quarters in the entire NCAA thihs season at Fresno Pacific. ART U's second PacWest Conference game on Dec. 12 was one for the ages as Storey knocked down six of her eight 3-pointers for 20 points in the first quarter and went on to score a season-high 30 points. The performance would earn her the program's first-ever NCBWA National Player of the Week as well as PacWest Player of the Week. Storey enters the postseason having made at least one 3-pointer in 24 of 30 games.

These All-PacWest honors are the third in Guinn and Sheng's respective careers. It is the second for Storey and Camera. Guinn was First Team in 2015 as well as Defender of the Year and Third Team in 2014 while Sheng was Second Team (2014) and Third Team (2015), Camera and Storey were each All-PacWest Third Team previously.
