Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout Final Results

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Academy of Art men's golf jumped two spots in the standings at the Tim Tierney Pioneer shootout at Chuck Corica Golf Complex on Tuesday for an eighth place finish out of 16 teams. Junior Otto Homruen shot the best round of any ART U men's golfer this spring, firing an exceptional 69 (-3) in the final round, though it was junior Gabriel De Leon Manotoc who finished highest for the Urban Knights, tying for 11th in the field of 88 golfers.

"It was great to have Otto get on track with the performance he had," said head coach Andy Moren. "We think he is capable of some great things, I believe this is a preview of what's to come. Gabe once again was our rock and completed another solid performance. He is such a strong player mentally and physically and we are very proud of him."

Manotoc shot a 73 (+1) in the final round to end a single stroke above par with a cumulative score of 217. Manotoc has claimed the best ART U finish in two of the three tournaments this spring with his highest placement coming at the NDNU Invitational when he took fifth.  Senior Lawrence Liang put together the second best performance for the Urban Knights, ending tied for 24th by shooting +7 across three rounds. Homruen improved nine strokes from his previous round for the second best third round of all 88 golfers. The (-3) stands as the lowest ART U score of the season and vaulted him 27 spots for a 41st place finish. Sophomore Matthew Watkins rounded out the scorers with a 234 to end tied for 62nd.

"Overall we improved each round which is great," commented Moren. "But we need to work on some areas to be more consistent."
