2019-20 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars
NORMAN, Okla. – Five members of the Academy of Art men's golf team were been recognized for their academic success on Wednesday, as
Zhane Chan,
Gabriel De Leon Manotoc,
Otto Homruen,
Julius Kreutzer, and
Matthew Watkins were all named 2019-20 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
"I am very proud of all our players and their dedication to the team and academics," said head coach
Andy Moren. "It is great for them to be recognized for all of their hard work."
The five student-athletes honored are the most in any single year for ART U, and it is the second consecutive year that ART U has had multiple All-America Scholars. Manotoc earned this award last season, making him the second Urban Knight in program history to be recognized in consecutive years (also:
Lawrence Liang). For Chan, Homruen and Kreutzer, it is their first time receiving the honor. Leading the way was Kreutzer with a 3.92 GPA in Music Production & Sound Design, while in the School of Communications & Media Technologies Chan recorded a 3.66 GPA, Manotoc a 3.42 GPA, and Watkins a 3.17. Homruen closed out the quintet with a 3.60 GPA in the School of Graphic Design.
On the links, it was also Kreutzer who would finish with the best average round score for the Urban Knights with a 72.72, leading to a pair of top-2 finishes, including winning the Concordia Invitational after tying the lowest single-round score in ART U history with a 66 in round one. Twice this year was Kreutzer named the PacWest Golfer of the Week for his efforts,
first on Oct. 10, 2019 and then
again on Mar. 12.
Homruen would not be far behind, ending his year with an average round score of 74.39 in six tournaments. His best finish of the year would come at the
Saint Martin's Invitational where he tied for 16th with his lowest score of the year (213). Hot on the tails of Homruen was Chan, as the junior averaged a 75.00 with his best showing at the
Sierra Central Wildcat Classic where he tied for sixth place. Manotoc and Watkins each averaged a 76.00 this season, both tying for seventh place in the final tournament of the year at the
NDNU Invitational.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, an student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically, have a stroke-average under 78.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. For 2019-20, they must have participated in 40 percent of the team's competitive rounds.
