2021 Sonoma State Invitational (Full Results)

SANTA ROSA, Calif. – A second straight round at 5-under-par 283 for Academy of Art men's golf propelled them into first place at the Sonoma State Invitational on Tuesday after beginning the day in third. There were two first-place finishes for ART U with junior
Julius Kreutzer capturing the individual title by way of a final score of 9-under-par 135.
"The team was very impressive this week, they played with the poise and grittiness of an experienced team," said ART U Head Coach
Andy Moren. "I am very proud of what they have been able to accomplish this year and I still think their best golf is ahead of them."
It's the second tournament win for the Urban Knights this season, their first since they
won the Bay Area Invitational to begin the 2020-21 campaign. ART U finished the tournament at a combined 10-under-par 566 (the lowest two-round tourney score in program history) thanks to a pair of Knights in the top-10, serving as one of only two teams who shot under par in both rounds along with host Sonoma State. In the end, it would be ART U taking home a two-stroke victory over the Seawolves (8-under-par 568).
Meanwhile, this
marks the third tournament win on the year for Kreutzer, as he used six birdies and an eagle to post a 4-under-par 68. Overall, Kreutzer led the entire tournament in birdies with 12, while also leading in par-4 scoring with an average of 3.8 strokes (4-under). Carding the lowest two-round tourney score in program history (135), he also moved up in the program's record book with his seventh career top-10 result.
Also finishing in the top-10 was junior
Matthew Watkins, his third top-5 finish of the season, as he ended the tournament in a tie for fourth place at 3-under-par 141. His final round was an even-par 72, recording three birdies on the day to end with seven for the tournament. Senior
Gabriel De Leon Manotoc was just outside the top-10 in a tie for 11th place, shooting even-par 72 in back-to-back rounds to finish with a combined 144. Rounding out the scoring for ART U was senior
Otto Homruen, who finished in a tie for 17th place at 2-over-par 146 after leading the tournament in pars with 29.
"It was really nice to see Matt and Julius win and make the All-Tournament team," Moren said. "They both work extremely hard and it is nice to see them rewarded for their efforts."
The next time out for the Urban Knights will be the PacWest Championship where ART U will look to carry this momentum into the first round on Monday, Apr. 19.
