PacWest Weekly Awards (Feb. 27)
IRVINE, Calif. – Ending her sophomore season with
the strong rebounding and steals numbers she has become synonymous with, Academy of Art women's basketball forward/center
Alisha Wilson collected her sixth PacWest Defender of the Week honor of the year on Monday. The award is for games played from Feb. 20-26.
Wilson began the season's final week of action with nine defensive rebounds, six steals, and one block in an overtime battle with Fresno Pacific on
Feb. 23, marking the seventh time she has recorded four or more thefts in a game and coming with 19 points plus six offensive boards as she posted her 17th double-double of the year. In a
Feb. 25 rematch with Dominican, the Pomona native grabbed another 10 defensive rebounds and notched one steal as well.
The 2022-23 regular season saw Wilson's 14.8 rebounds per game tie with Central Washington's Samantha Bowman for the highest average in NCAA Division II while her 17 double-doubles ranked eighth in the nation and tied for the highest in ART U single-season history. The Communications & Media Technologies major finished second in the PacWest in steals (2.8, 19th in NCAA DII) and sixth in blocks (0.9) per game.
This is the seventh PacWest weekly honor for Wilson this season after she was named Defender of the Week on
Jan. 4,
Jan. 23,
Jan. 30,
Feb. 6, and
Feb. 20 as well as Player of the Week on
Jan. 16. It is her ninth career weekly award to further the program record after surpassing seven apiece from
Jasmin Guinn and
Chanel Stuart.
