PacWest Weekly Awards (Oct. 2)
LONG BEACH, Calif. – At the Urban Knight Invitational on
Sept. 30, freshman
Isabella Christy stood tall with the best of them in the lead card and came out with the individual title to earn a Pacific West Conference Golfer of the Week award. The native of Paintsville, Kentucky collected her first collegiate tournament win in just her second showing to lead the Academy of Art women's golf team to a first place finish and earn PacWest Team of the Week honors.
Taking the win along with her team over Dominican and Jessup in the tri-team tournament, Christy shot a 4-over-par 148 through two rounds as she shot an identical 2-over-par 74 in each play through. The Interior Architecture & Design major did just enough as she took sole possession of the individual title over Dominican's Angelica Antonio, as Christy beat her by a stroke in the second round. The individual win for Christy is the first by an Urban Knight since Anahi Servin did so back in 2022 when she won the NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament.
In addition to her tournament win, Christy's first career tournament saw her tie for third place at the RJGA Shootout at Estrella on Sept. 17.
It is the first time this season an Urban Knight has been named the Golfer of the Week and is also the first since Servin in 2022. This award opens the cabinet for Christy as the first piece towards her collegiate trophy case.
