Zanichelli Shoots All-Time Best Round At Nighthawk Invite

Nighthawk Invitational (Final Results)

PLEASANTON, Calif. –
Academy of Art men's golf was back on the course Tuesday for round two of the Nighthawk Invitational after finishing the first round yesterday, and the Urban Knights bettered themselves by 15 strokes as they ended the action with a combined score of 29-over-par 605.

Concluding the tournament as the top ART U finisher was junior Giulio Zanichelli as he closed the tournament tied for fourth place while climbing 26 spots on the leaderboard with a 1-under-par 143 and closing his second round with the lowest individual tournament round score in ART U program history with his 6-under-par 66. This second record score was the best of Zanichelli's career, tied with Matt Garcia (Apr. 12, 2010), Stuart Favretto (Apr. 23, 2012), and Julius Kreutzer (Oct. 7, 2019) for the lowest by an Urban Knight, and was the best round in the entire tournament by any player. With a strong second day, Zanichelli shot the sixth-best tournament score in two rounds for ART U all-time.

Also with an impressive second day as he climbed 16 spots in the rankings was sophomore Jerah Venkaiya, who shot the third-best round on day two in the tournament with a 1-under-par 71, and finished the competition off with a total 5-over-par 149. Senior Allan Osornio was next up for the Knights as he shot a combined 12-over-par 156, with senior Jack DeBenedetti right behind him with a 13-over-par 157. Freshman Miguel Mendoza ended with a 18-over-par 162.

Shooting an even-par to close out the tournament as a team, Cal State East Bay won the Nighthawk Invitational with a combined team score of 4-under-par 572. Finishing five strokes better than second place and ahead nearly the entire tournament, Cal State San Marcos' Patrick Jaksch finished with a 7-under-par 137 as the individual champion.

Academy of Art will be back on the links next Monday, Mar. 11 as ART U travels across the Bay to Alameda, Calif. to participate in the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout at Corica Park Golf Course.
