Rattanaprakarn, Geenen Named WGCA All-American Scholars

2023-24 WGCA All-American Scholars

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – As announced by the Women's Golf Coaches Association on Monday, a pair of Urban Knights have been recognized by the WGCA for their accomplishments in the classroom as senior Napat "Plern" Rattanaprakarn and Tessa Geenen were each named to the 2023-24 WGCA All-American Scholar Team.

Tessa Geenen & Plern RattanaprakarnAccording to the WGCA, the criteria for selection to be an WGCA All-American Scholar are some of the toughest in all of collegiate athletics, as the minimum cumulative grade point average requirement is a 3.50 while playing in at least 50 percent of a team's season. Out of the 1,497 student-athletes to receive the award, Rattanaprakarn turned in a 3.59 GPA in the School of Fashion while Geenen earned a 3.52 GPA in the School of Advertising.

Over the course of seven tournaments and 16 rounds, Rattanaprakarn put together an average round score of 79.25. Her best individual round came from the PacWest Conference Tournament on Apr. 17 where she shot an even-par 72 to help her eventual sixth place overall finish, earning herself All-PacWest Tournament Team honors. With two other finishes within the top 16 this season, Rattanaprakarn closed her collegiate career with her second conference tournament award and now her sixth academic award total.

With an average round score of 81.54, Geenen participated in six tournaments in her final season with ART U and totaled 13 rounds played in her final collegiate campaign. While Geenen shot her best individual round score of the season at the Sonoma State Fall Invitational on Oct. 3 with her 2-over-par 74 in her second round, her lowest overall score came from the Westmont Invitational a week later on Oct. 10 where she finished with a 11-over-par 155, good for a 12th place finish.

It is the second time garnering a WGCA academic selection in Rattanaprakarn's career while it is the first for Geenen. This is also the first time an Urban Knight earned the honor since Rattanaprakarn and Iveta Posledni both did so back in 2021.
