USTFCCCA Selects Ajomale As Region's Top Track Athlete

2019 USTFCCCA Outdoor Regional Award Winners

NEW ORLEANS – Leading the West Region in three individual events and two relays ahead of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, PacWest Men's Track Athlete of the Year Mobolade Ajomale added another accolade, West Region Men's Outoor Track Athlete of the Year, to his resume as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Friday.

Ajomale's final collegiate outdoor season came on the heels of his ninth individual NCAA Division II title (indoor 200m) and has seen the Richmond Hill, Canada native continue to dominate across multiple sprint events. Adding five USTFCCCA All-Region honors to his collection of now 40 in his career, he completed the regular season ranked seventh in NCAA Division II in the 200m (20.81), 13th in the 100m (10.36), 13th in the 400m (46.91), 13th in the 4x400m (3:10.78), and 16th in the 4x100m (40.65). Ajomale claimed his fourth consecutive conference title in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m as well as his third career title in the 400m and second in the 4x400m at the PacWest Championships. The 2016 Olympic Bronze Medalist was also twice the PacWest Track Athlete of the Week (Mar. 20Apr. 18).

In his first outdoor meet, the Hornet Invitational, Ajomale went right to work delivering his top times in both the 100m (10.36) and 200m (20.81) before going on join his teammates for their fastest 4x100m time of the season (40.65) at the Florida Relays. He later broke PacWest Championship meet records with the fastest 400m mark (46.91) of his career and the second-fastest 4x400m (3:10.78) in ART U history en route to being named PacWest Championship Men's Track Athlete of the Meet.

This is the third West Region Men's Outoor Track Athlete of the Year award for Ajomale and the sixth award of this type across indoor (2019, 20172016) and outdoor (2018, 2017).

Many of the honored athletes and coaches will be in competition at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships coming up this next week, May 23-25, in Kingsville, Texas at the Texas A&M Kingsville's Javelina Stadium.
