GCAA All-Academic Team
Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars
NORMAN, Okla. -- In a Wednesday announcement, the Golf Coaches Association of America recognized Academy of Art men's golf with a pair of academic awards. For the fourth consecutive year, the Urban Knights earned the Outstanding Team Academic Award for having a grade point average of 3.0 or better.
The outstanding team GPA was bolstered by a pair of Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, senior
Lawrence Liang and junior
Gabriel De Leon Manotoc. This is Liang's
second consecutive All-America Scholar recognition after becoming the first in program history last year, and Manotoc's first. It is also the first time in program history men's golf has had more than one golfer selected. Liang graduated with a 3.59 cumulative GPA in Advertising while Manotoc has maintained a 3.29 GPA in Communications and Media Technologies.
On the links, Manotoc posted an average score of 73.17 to earn him a spot on the
All-PacWest First Team. He also
tied for second at the conference

tournament, made his second straight
NCAA Regionals appearance, and was named PacWest Golfer of the Week twice (
Mar. 14,
Mar. 21). Liang finished with an average score of 75.19 and was named to the All-PacWest Team for the first time in his career.
Academy of Art was the only school in the PacWest given the Outstanding Team Academic Award and one of 40 Division II schools to be selected. ART U's 3.44 GPA was just 0.06 points away from earning them a spot on the President's Special Recognition list as the fifth Division II school.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in there last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
