2024 PacWest Scholar-Athletes of the Year
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Performing out on the green and in the classroom, Academy of Art men's golfer
Giulio Zanichelli was honored as his sport's Pacific West Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year as announced on Friday.
PacWest Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors are selected in a vote by the PacWest sports information directors. Each of the winners are now eligible for the PacWest Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards.
While maintaining a 3.54 cumulative grade point average in the School of Industrial Design, Zanichelli had an athletic season for the books, making a run all the way to the NCAA Division II National Championship on May 23. On his way to the year's final tournament, Zanichelli battled his way through the NCAA DII West/South Central Regionals on May 11 and Pacific West Conference Championship on Apr. 17, where he would finish in third place in both events to further his run. Prior to the postseason, Zanichelli was already showing his dominance in his career-best campaign, as he won the PCH Invitational outright individually on Feb. 13, broke numerous personal records, and recorded three other top 10 finishes en route to his impressive year.
With stunning scores came astounding awards as Zanichelli was named the PacWest Player of the Year by the conference, while he was additionally named to the All-PacWest First Team for the first time in his respective career. This season, Zanichelli also earned a
PacWest Golfer of the Week honor before making the
2024 PacWest All-Tournament Team.
This is the first time Zanichelli has received a PacWest Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor as he represents the 11th student-athlete in ART U history to be selected.
