2023 All-PacWest Awards
IRVINE, Calif. – Following a season in which he led ART U with the lowest average round score while also recording five top-20 finishes, Academy of Art men's golf sophomore
Giulio Zanichelli collected his first collegiate postseason award as he was selected to the All-PacWest Second Team as voted on by the coaches of the conference and announced by the Pacific West Conference on Wednesday.
"Giulio is an extremely hard worker both on and off the golf course," said ART U Men's Golf Head Coach
Deven DeLuca. "We're excited to see him come back even stronger next season."
Zanichelli posted a 74.79 stroke average over the course of nine tournaments (24 rounds) in 2022-23, opening the season with his best finish of the year while participating in the
SMU Bishop Invitational when he tied for seventh after shooting an even-par 144 (two rounds). His lowest single round score of the season came during the same tournament,
opening the action with a 4-under-par 68, which is tied for the ninth-lowest single round score in program history.
Four additional tournaments saw Zanichelli finish in the top 20, including just missing out on another top-10 finish when he
tied for 11th at WWU Invitational and his lowest three-round score of the year when he fired a
1-under-par 215 at the Chico State Wildcat Classic. To close the season, he captured
19th place at the PacWest Championships.
While this is the first All-PacWest honor in the career of Zanichelli, it is
the seventh consecutive year (no awards given 2019-20) that there has been at least one Urban Knight named to an All-PacWest team. The most honors earned by ART U in a single season is four, which they have done twice
starting in 2018-19 before doing so
again in 2020-21 (five total awards including Coach of the Year), a season in which the Knights
claimed their first PacWest Championship as a team.
