2019 PacWest Women's Golf Awards
IRVINE, Calif. -- After winning their first
PacWest Championship title and placing four Urban Knights in the top 10, Academy of Art women's golf has swept the PacWest postseason awards. Sophomore
Anahi Servin headlined the flurry of postseason honors with her second straight Golfer of the Year award,
Nattavadee "Baipor" Khunsri was Freshman of the Year,
Mitch Lowe is coach of the year, and five Urban Knights were named to the All-PacWest Team, including four First Team members. ART U has dominated PacWest women's golf the past few years, with four of the past five Golfer of the Year awards going to ART U. First Team honors went to: Servin, Khunsri,
Elan Hawkins, and
Han-Chuan "Vicky" Kuo, while
Iveta Posledni was named All-PacWest Second Team.
A vote by the PacWest head coaches determined the individual honors and the All-PacWest teams were determined by the players' GolfStat ranking, based on stroke average.
Servin's Golfer of the Year award comes after another tremendous season in which she won individual titles at the
Otter Fall Invitational,
Dixie State Fall Invitational, and the PacWest Championship Tournament when she became the only player in conference history to repeat as individual champion. The repeat came on the second-best cumulative score in tournament history at 1-under-par. Servin earned three PacWest Golfer of the Week awards (
Sept. 13,
Oct. 4,
Mar. 7) in the 2018-2019 season.Â
Khunsri came on strong towards the end of the season, winning the
Sonoma State Spring Invitational with back to back rounds of 74 and the momentum carried her to a runner-up finish at the conference championship. Khunsri also sank the only hole-in-one of the season at the
Mustang Intercollegiate.
Hawkins had an excellent start to her season, placing in the top-10 in the first three tournaments of the fall. Her best finish came at the Dixie State Invitational where she took fourth place to contribute to the Knights' first championship of the season. Hawkins finished 11th at the PacWest Championship.
Kuo's top finish came at the Dixie State Invitational when she placed tied for sixth at 4-over-par 148. Kuo had four top-10 finishes, placing tied for 10th at the
Sonoma State Fall Invitational, ninth at the
Mustang Intercollegiate, and tied for seventh at the PacWest Championships. Her best round came at the Mustang Intercollegiate when she shot an even 72 in round two.
At the
Mikuni Sushi Shootout Posledni secured the highest finish of her career in second place. Posledni shot 1-over-par 73 round one and an even 72 in the second round, for the lowest score of her career. She followed up the performance with another top finish at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout, where her 74, 75 placed her tied for sixth. Posledni placed top-10 in four tournaments, including a stellar fifth place finish at the PacWest Championship to earn a spot on the PacWest All-Tournament team.Â
In nine tournaments ART U collected two championships, six runner-up finishes, and finished third in a strong field of 23 at the Mustang Intercollegiate. The Urban Knights will continue their exceptional season at the NCAA D2 Super Regionals in Amarillo, Texas from May 7-9.
